After installing Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), the Setup Assistant wizard prompts you to activate ADE (you must be online during this process). During activation, you have the option to authorize your computer with an Adobe ID.
The Adobe ID enables you to transfer items protected by digital rights management (DRM) between multiple computers or NOOKs and restore them after a data loss or system reinstallation.
If you don't have an Adobe ID, creating one is free and only takes a minute. Go to www.accounts.adobe.com and click on Get An Adobe ID.
A computer or device can only be authorized by one Adobe ID at a time. The De-authorize option in ADE allows you to remove your Adobe ID from either your device or computer. After a computer or device is de-authorized, you will be able to authorize it again with either the same Adobe ID, or a new one.
Once Adobe Digital Editions has been activated, you will then need to authorize NOOK with your Adobe ID:
1. Connect your NOOK via USB Cable to a compatible USB port on your computer (Make sure to use the USB Cable that is specific to your device).
· For PC Users:
- Open Adobe Digital Editions.
- Once ADE has loaded, insert the USB cable from your device to your computer.
- Your PC should then detect your device.
· For MAC Users:
- Close Adobe Digital Editions.
- Once ADE has been closed, insert the USB cable from your device to your MAC.
- Your MAC should then detect your device (a drive icon labeled NOOK should appear on your desktop).
- After your device has been detected by your MAC, open Adobe Digital Editions.
2. Once detected, Adobe Digital Editions will prompt you to "Authorize" your device to the program. Click Authorize then Finish.
3. After authorization, the device appears as an icon in your library. You can transfer items to and from the device's just by dragging and dropping.
Follow the steps below to de-authorize a computer (PC/Mac®) or a NOOK via Adobe Digital Editions.
De-Authorizing
If you are not sure if you have authorized your NOOK, or if your device is not being recognized by Adobe Digital Editions, you can de-authorize the device/computer and re-authorize.
De-authorizing your NOOK will remove any Adobe ID from your device. After de-authorizing your NOOK, you must authorize it again with a new or existing Adobe ID to read any content sideloaded from ADE.
To De-authorize your NOOK:
· For PCs: Hold CTRL + Shift + E
· For Macs: Hold Command + Shift + E
De-authorizing your computer will remove any Adobe ID from your computer. After de-authorizing your computer, you will need to authorize it again with a new or existing Adobe ID to use ADE.
To De-authorize your COMPUTER perform the following:
· For PCs: Hold CRTL + Shift + D
· For Macs: Hold Command + Shift + D
After de-authorization, safely eject your NOOK then re-insert the USB cable to your computer. Once recognized again, ADE will prompt you to authorize your NOOK/computer and will tell you how many remaining devices can be authorized.
Mac users may need to re-start Adobe Digital Editions.
